4 Classic Books for Quarantine

Hi readers! During quarantine, it’s difficult to find stuff to do if you’re not looking in the right places… if you’re looking for a good book to read, here are four diverse classics!

#1: Animal Farm

This novel, by George Orwell, may seem like a quirky fable of Old McDonald’s barnyard pals, but is really is an allegory/satire of the Russian Revolution and communism within the Soviet Union. With cherished characters and heavy symbolism, this book is a great work; additionally, if you’re looking for a quick read, it’s pretty short (between 100 and 130 pages depending on your edition), and can be read in a little over two hours.

#2: Pride and Prejudice

Jane Austen delivers a witty and memorable romance in this novel. It makes a great light-hearted read, while still delivering a chick-flick-esque drama set in 1800s England. This read is perfect if you’re looking for a book to last a rainy weekend since it ranges between 430 and 490 pages depending on the edition, but its charming plotline will likely cause you to read it in one or two sittings.

#3: Lord of the Flies

William Golding’s novel details the survival of a group of British schoolboys who end up stranded on an island. The book, set during World War II, may seem like a happy-go-lucky adventure of boys that escaped the horrors of war, but the plotline turns sinister and at times can resemble a horror or suspense story instead. In my personal opinion, the first ¾ of the book may drag if you don’t know what’s coming, but I guarantee the beginning of the book doesn’t seem arbitrary once the last ¼ ties everything together. The book is also another quicker read, since it ranges between 220 and 250 pages based on the edition.

#4: The Giver

Lois Lowry brings forth a dystopian world free of pain and all negative emotions in this post-apocalyptic/futuristic world. The book shows the importance of remembering the past, but is morally uplifting and twisted at the same time. The Giver is between 190 and 210 pages depending on the edition, but is a part of a series if you are looking for a long-lasting read; however, if you’re not interested in the series the book can be read independently, but I highly recommend the series (the other books seem unrelated from each other but the final book ties all of them together with a neat little ribbon, making it one of my favorite dystopian series).

Hopefully one of these books has piqued your interests! If not, check out my historical movie or songs reviews, or keep updated for more book reviews!

Stay safe and keep feeling good vibes!
